throw money at your car like no tomorrow? I have a long ‘wish list’ of things I want to do to my TL (Apexi exhaust, springs, struts, lip kit, paint, camber kit [don’t shoot me]) but at the same time I’m already starting my search for my next car and want to start putting aside some money. Do you Oppo’s just go all in on your car or become content with what you have and plan for the future?
Here’s a surprisingly roomy car for your time

If you are already planning ahead for another car it seems like you have already moved on.

You have a point...I think my planning though is more of my ambition to succeed in life

My dad tells me that stock cars look the best. He doesn’t like modifying cars, that’s how he controls himself.
But I see you has a TL, which year? I had one too HAHAHAHA. Gots any picturessss?

How do I resist the urge to throw money at a car? I have a wife.

Well, I like to eat, and make sure my wife and dogs can eat too. I like living in our own house and not in a family member’s basement. It’s nice that the lights and A/C can stay on, and we can do laundry at home, and pay for school and not have to work 70 hours a week just to maintain.

It looks gorgeous. ^Look at my username HAHA. Always loved the look of the Type-S especially in the silver/black combination.

I have the realization that I have to buy another car before I can do what I want to do with my 4Runner.

I don’t really plan on selling my car. It’s not a DD, so it’s not the same as your situation. Plus, all the mods I do are ones that are likely to add value to the car.

But seriously im in the same exact boat as you with my C30. Im pouring everything I can into it. Heres what im trying to consider:
For some reason lets say I have to sell. Are my mods destroying my resale value?
god forbid the car gets wrecked: am I putting so much in my insurance company wont pay for any of this and im going to be screwed
am I doing something that I will get tired of or not even notice after the first days novelty wears off?
In your case especially, looking for the next car, do you need to put the money in to help it sell or drive...or can you save it for what you want.
you might be doing what I was at first, trying to make my car into about 5 other cars that I wanted.

Very good points. I haven’t really dumped a ton of money into stuff yet, headers being the only serious thing. When time comes to buy a new car I have already considering just parting my TL out instead of trying to sell a near 15 year old car with 150k or so miles

I guess im kinda lucky since I have a somewhat niche car. I got the wole interior led swapped now, oem all season floor mats and trunk tray, mudflaps, led parking lights, and some prancing moose things.
I plan on getting the roof rack, R design wheels, a polestar tune, maybe cruise control, and door sills.
The hope is im keeping things oem and improving other things to make it more desirable. I wanted to lower it and modify the exhaust amung other things but I just cant justify the cost and dont want to get mocked or judged....

I love your C30 and just have to say lower all the things! I want to do the whole lowering springs, fender roll, etc etc but like you I cannot justify the price...

I went all in ONCE. I kept telling myself, “it’s paid for I’ll just use the money that would go to a car payment for mods”. Then I got older and realized I can’t take clients to lunch in a modded Civic at 27. I lost a ton of money when I sold it. Enough that I could of paid cash for a barely used S2000 at the time. Or I could of put half down on a slightly used E46 M3. I vowed to never do that again. Been mostly stock since. With the exception of changing wheels/tires, and getting a tune.

Like a lot of others have already said, I don’t have the money for that. Combined with my other expensive hobbies (which I also don’t have money for) that usually does the trick. Although that hasn’t stopped me making a wishlist of things I want to do to my CL. My list is pretty much like yours too although the CL has less support than your TL even though they’re the same platform ironically.

The knowledge that you will never get that money back, even if you sell the car to somebody who likes mods anyway. Most people don’t like mods, and even if the parts are good quality - the skill of the installation is already suspect. Most people expect people to cut corners, or suspect you touched things they can’t see. So when they see
lots
of mods it’s usually a caution sign. You have to be picky. Wheels, tires, springs -
maybe
an exhaust. Beyond that you just make the car less sellable.

Just keep it stock. I don’t think my family has ever added a modification to a car.

I have multiple expensive hobbies, plus a wife and a pet. It’s a delicate balance. Very delicate. And I hear “you don’t need more guns/car parts/tattoos right now” a lot. Fortunately she does understand that my hobbies make me happy (especially cars), and lets me pursue them to a perfectly acceptable degree. But, like I said. It’s all a balance.

I went for mods that had the most bang for your buck effect on the car. Once I hit a sweet spot I stopped. For me that was a full exhaust, tune, new rubber and slightly lowered springs (FRS).
What keeps me from going all out? Knowing I am only delaying my step into the next (better) sports car. Started a small savings fund for the next toy, pulls automatically from my income so I can’t touch it!
